A 145million-year-old oyster fossil has been found
off the south coast by English fishermen could contain the mother of all pearls.
Experts had to use medical scanning equpiment to analyse the treasure fossil which measures about 7 inches across, to discover if there was a rare gem hidden inside. The results showed an unexplained smooth rounded object about the size of a golf ball.
If the mysterious shape is indeed identified as a pearl, it could be worth a hefty sum.
However, experts will not explore the contents any further as it would destroy the ancient fossil. The oyster is safely housed at the Blue Reef Aquarium in Portsmouth, where it is only being shown in lectures.
Let's hope technology advances so the fossil can be opened safely, the pearl discovered and the fossil to remain intact.
If Modalu's logo is anything to go by, we reckon the pearl would be just as big and beautiful as ours!
